Martha Velez, PhD, is the Founder and Artistic Director of the ProComm Theatre Troupe. She wrote the award-winning play, Power of the Powerless, which focuses on the social issue of immigration, soldiers suffering from PTSD and struggling with economic uncertainty. She has now adapted this play into the musical play, AMERICAN HEARTBEAT. Velez continues to use her voice, as a singer and as a playwright, for good will and social change. For Power of the Powerless, Velez was the recipient of the Los Angeles, Write On Women's Award for Acting and Playwriting.

Martha Velez (Reid) (born August 25th...in New York City) is an American singer, actress, songwriter, playwright of Puerto Rican/Spanish descent. Martha started singing at five years old and won an opera scholarship at 12 years old, as a mezzo soprano. She studied for three years, then went to the High School of Performing Arts in New York City. She holds a master's degree from Antioch University in Clinical Psychology and a PhD from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Cultural Mythology and Depth Psychology. She is a founding Fellow of the Imaginal Institute of Ojai, California.
Martha toured for three years with the Gaslight Singers, performing at Carnegie Hall, in multiple college concerts across the country, and several pivotal television shows, including the famed, Hootenanny Show! After her distinguished career as a singer songwriter, Martha pursued her career as an actress which she began on Broadway. She later moved on to acting in movies and TV series.
